Distant Thunder

Distant Thunder
(Pete Kennedy)

There's a full moon out on the Delta tonight rollin' through cottonball
     clouds
Every Frog in Sunflower County is singin' his song so loud.
Like them frogs I'm singin' to you in the dark where the bullrushes
     grow all around
With a weary soul and an achin' heart, for it's far away I'm bound

There's a far-off rumble in the sky somewhere down around Galveston
     Bay
And a weary lonesome feeling has been tuggin' on me all day
Please don't wonder what spell I'm under when I turn in the night
     and say,
"It's only distant thunder, but it's callin' me away."

There's a passenger train out on the L&N moanin' it's sad old song.
It's that old Southern Crescent bound for New Orleans tellin' me it's
     time to be gone.
So kiss me once for the days ahead and once for the times we've known
And once to remember these lips so red when I'm far away from home.

There's a far-off rumble in the sky somewhere down around Galveston
     Bay
And I can't fight this old feelin' that's been tuggin' on me all day
Please don't wonder what spell I'm under when I turn in the night and
     say,
"It's only distant thunder, but it's callin' me away."

"It's only distant thunder, but it's callin' me away."
