New Moon Over My Shoulder

New Moon Over My Shoulder
(Jimmie Davis/Lee Blastie/Ekko Whelan)

There's a new moon over my shoulder
And an old love in my heart
I remember now that I'm older
What you told me the day we had to part

You promised with the new moon you'd be coming back to me
But many moons have passed, and I'm waiting patiently
There's a new moon over my shoulder
And an old love in my heart

Instrumental

Repeat verses 1 and 2.

Here's Tex Ritter's version

THERE'S A NEW MOON OVER MY SHOULDER
Recorded by: Tex Ritter
(Davis, Whelan & Blastic)

There's a new moon over my shoulder
And an old love still in my heart
I remembeer now that I'm older
What you told me the day we had to part

You promised with the new moon
You'd be comin' back to me
Now many moons have passed since then
I'm waiting patiently
There's a new moon over my shoulder
And an old love still in my heart

[*And so I keep on waiting
For your safe return someday
And that we'll be the same old sweethearts
As when you went away]
There's a new moon over my shoulder
And an old love still in my heart

Jimmie Davis recorded 'There's a new moon over my shoulder' in March
1944. I don't know whether it's the same as Doc Watson's recording.
It was reissued in Bear Family's second box set of Jimmie Davis 'You
Are My Sunshine'. There's not a lot to it:
