The Lady of Skin and Bone

The Lady of Skin and Bone

1. There was a lady of skin and bone
And such a lady was never known
It fell upon St Stephen's Day
This lady went to church to pray (x2)

2. And when she came unto the stile
She tarried there a little while
And when she came unto the door
She tarried there a little more (x 2)

3. This lady she walked up and down
She spied a dead man on the ground
And from his nose unto his chin
The worms crawled out and the worms crawled in (x 2)

4. The lady to the sexton said,
"Will I be like him when I'm dead?"
The sexton to the lady said,
    "Yes, you'll be like him when you're dead ." (x 2)

5. The lady to the sexton said,
    "AHHHHHHH!!!!"

Note: from the singing of Paddy Graber, Vancouver, 1969; in the Opie's colls.
